It’s been quite a week for the Atlanta Falcons. After successfully navigating the 2025 NFL draft, the team added an 11-player undrafted free agent class that was ranked among the best in the league.

Those good feelings changed when it was revealed that defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich’s son was responsible for the prank call on Shedeur Sanders. Ulbrich and the Falcons were fined a combined $350,000 by the NFL for their role in leaking Sanders’ phone number.

In our latest Falcons recap, we examine the latest on Kirk Cousins’ future, Jeff Ulbrich’s fine, Drake London’s fifth-year option and the team’s undrafted free agent signings.

Kirk Cousins: Falcons discussing trade?

Atlanta made it through the draft without trading quarterback Kirk Cousins, but according to general manager Terry Fontenot, the team is still working the phones. While it’s still a possibility that the team keeps Cousins as a backup, that’s clearly not the Falcons’ preference. “I’ve probably already talked to six or seven GMs since the draft ended,” said Fontenot. “They’re talking about their roster, we’re talking about our roster, because the draft shifts some things in terms of needs and surplus.”

Drake London: 5th-year option picked up

In a move that was widely expected, the Atlanta Falcons picked up wide receiver Drake London’s fifth-year option on Wednesday. The former first-round pick has racked up over 3,000 receiving yards over his first three NFL seasons. Picking up London’s option keeps him in Atlanta for the next two years. The former USC star is set to earn roughly $16.8 million in 2026, which is the new final year of his contract.

Jeff Ulbrich: Fined $100K for Sanders prank

Before Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders slid all the way to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft, he received a prank phone call from someone impersonating an NFL general manager. It turns out that someone was Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich’s son. Atlanta was fined $250,000 by the league for its role in the prank. Ulbrich was also fined $100,000 for leaking the number. The team apologized but Ulbrich’s son’s mistake put the team in a bad spot following an otherwise successful draft weekend.

Falcons UDFA class: PFN ranks Atlanta No. 1

The Falcons only have five selections in the 2025 NFL draft, but they also added some of the best available undrafted free agents. Kansas cornerback Cobee Bryant and offensive lineman Joshua Gray Oregon State headlined an impressive 11-player UDFA class. Pro Football Network named Atlanta the biggest winner out of 32 NFL teams: “The Falcons effectively added fifth- and sixth-round level talents without having those picks,” wrote Sterling Xie of PFN.

Xavier Watts: Future Pro Bowler?

Former NFL safety and current ESPN personality Ryan Clark had high praise for Falcons third-round pick Xavier Watts. Clark stated that Watts “has future pro bowler written all over him” and that there was “no safety like him in the 2025 NFL draft.” Atlanta is hoping the same for the former Notre Dame standout. Watts could eventually start for the team once he gets his feet wet in the NFL. However, Jordan Fuller will likely hold down the strong safety spot for the Falcons this season.
