The Chicago Bears had one of the NFL’s most impactful offseasons due in large part to the hiring of new head coach Ben Johnson, who will look to get Chicago on a winning track and elevate the offense.
Johnson is one of the league’s brightest offensive minds, which has many believing the Bears are primed for an offensive breakout.

For rookie tight end Colston Loveland, everything he’s seen so far from his head coach has been nothing short of impressive. While Loveland has yet to hit the practice field, as he recovers from shoulder surgery, he’s gotten a glimpse inside Johnson’s “crazy mind” and how he plans on utilizing himself and fellow tight end Cole Kmet.
“He’s got a crazy mind, so he’s got all types of stuff, all types of concepts,” Loveland said. “…It’s definitely a step up and it’s another level. I love it so far. I’m seeing tight ends run all different kind of routes, doing a bunch of different stuff in the run game. So, yeah, I’m loving it. I’m just ready to get out there and go to work.”
While the selection of Loveland at 10th overall came as a bit of a surprise, considering Kmet was already in place, Johnson has a penchant for utilizing 12 personnel in his offense. And from what Loveland has glimpsed so far — in the classroom and as an observer at practice — it sounds like he’s a big fan of Johnson already.
