The New York Jets have major questions at wide receiver behind Garrett Wilson. New head coach Aaron Glenn is reliant on young pass catchers Malachi Corley and Arian Smith to make an impact. Veterans Allen Lazard and Josh Reynolds may be asked to carry heavy workloads while the raw playmakers develop.

General manager Darren Mougey should be monitoring opportunities to add proven assets to the position room. One could emerge in Green Bay in the form of Romeo Doubs. If the Packers consider trading Doubs prior to training camp, the Jets should strongly consider making an offer.

Doubs was among three receivers drafted by the Packers in 2022, joining Christian Watson and Samori Toure. The Packers followed that up by drafting another three receivers in 2023, including Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks. That didn’t derail Doubs, who thrived in chaos to record a career-best season as a sophomore, totaling 59 receptions for 674 yards and eight touchdowns.

Doubs failed to sustain that success in 2024, however. With the wide receiver room becoming increasingly crowded, the Packers suspended him for a game after he reportedly skipped practice due to frustration over lack of involvement in the team’s offense. Doubs later suffered a concussion that sidelined him again.

And now the Packers selected former Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft. It’s fairly clear that Reed and Golden will be the Packers’ Nos. 1 and 2 receivers this coming campaign, and both Watson and Wicks will also compete with Doubs for playing time. Doubs, who is entering a contract year, doesn’t appear to be in the Packers’ long-term plans.

The rebuilding Jets shouldn’t be willing to part with draft capital … unless the player they acquire could be a long-term solution. Doubs is a 25-year-old talented receiver in a contract year. Given the current state of the Packers’ wideout situation, Mougey should gauge the Packers’ interest in moving Doubs.
