Corey Pronman details what to expect from the Colorado Avalanche’s new prospects and how they fit into the farm system.
2025 Draft Grade: D
Colorado didn’t do much for me this weekend. I know some scouts who like either Francesco Dell’Elce or Linus Funck, their first two picks, but neither moved the needle when I watched them to think they were legit NHL prospects. Their bare-bones farm system, I think, stays that way.
Draft Class
77. Francesco Dell’Elce, LHD, Univ. of Massachusetts (NCAA)
June 23, 2005 | 6′ 1″ | 185 pounds
Analysis: Dell’Elce was one of the top defensemen in Hockey East as a 19-year-old freshman. His skating and skill have always impressed at times, but his offensive game really took off this year compared to his past two draft-eligible years. I don’t think he’s a premier puck-mover, but he can make a first pass and has a strong point shot.
118. Linus Funck, RHD, Luleå HF J20 (J20 Nationell)
May 10, 2007 | 6′ 3″ | 187 pounds
Analysis: Funck is a tall, right-shot defenseman who displays good skill and poise from the blue line, especially for a bigger guy. His skating is just OK, though, and it limits his defensive value despite his frame. Funck has issues handling quicker players, and his compete level is just average, too.
214. Nolan Roed, C, Tri-City Storm (USHL)
October 25, 2005 | 5′ 11″ | 185 pounds
