The Kansas City Chiefs are set to kick off training camp in less than a month, and with the annual trek to St. Joseph nearly here, we’re going to spend the next several weeks examining every position group on the roster heading into camp.

We’ll begin at quarterback, where the Chiefs employ the league’s best player in Patrick Mahomes. The 29-year-old Mahomes has led the Chiefs to the most regular-season (90) and playoff (17) wins of any team since 2018. His 17 career postseason victories trail only Tom Brady among quarterbacks in NFL history.

Additionally, Mahomes – who already has two NFL MVP and three Super Bowl MVP awards under his belt – also owns the league marks for touchdown passes (245) and passing yards (32,352) through 112 career regular-season games in NFL history.

Mahomes is undeniably on track to end his career as one of the greatest players the game has ever seen, and despite his immense resume, the best may still be yet to come.

Behind Mahomes, the Chiefs currently have three quarterbacks under contract who will compete for an opportunity to make the regular-season roster. Let’s take a look at each, beginning with veteran signal caller Gardner Minshew.

A six-year veteran, Minshew has suited up for the Jaguars, Eagles, Colts and Raiders during his professional career. He started nine games for Las Vegas last season, completing 203-of-306 passes for 2,013 yards and nine touchdowns. He averaged 6.6 yards-per-attempt and posted a passer rating of 81.0.

A broken collarbone ended Minshew’s lone season with the Raiders early, but it was only two years ago that Minshew nearly led the Colts to the playoffs and earned a Pro Bowl nod.

Overall, Minshew – who originally entered the league as a sixth-round pick in 2019 – has appeared in 59 games (with 46 starts) during his career, throwing for 11,950 yards and 68 touchdowns. He has the inside track to the Chiefs’ backup quarterback job heading into camp.
