After losing Lloyd Cushenberry during free agency last spring, the Denver Broncos turned to Luke Wattenberg, and he impressed in his first season as a full-time center.

Wattenberg is entering his fourth season as a pro and his second year as a starter, and Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus has him ranked among the top half of NFL centers.

Cameron ranked all 32 starting centers earlier this month, and he ranked Wattenberg 14th.

“The former fifth-round pick entered 2024 with almost no experience, and what he had shown up to that point was well below par,” Cameron wrote for PFF. “That all changed once Wattenberg assumed a starting role, as he proved to be one of the best pass protectors at the position. His 82.0 PFF pass-blocking grade in 2024 ranked second among centers, and he also finished above the 90th percentile in all of PFF’s stable pass-blocking metrics.”

Wattenberg was healthy for 13 starts last season, and PFF credited him with allowing two sacks. The versatile center/guard proved to be a capable starter in 2024, and he’s poised to take another step forward in 2025.
