Commanders’ Jayden Daniels Gets Mind-Blowing Comparison From NFL Analyst originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Washington Commanders’ quarterback Jayden Daniels took the NFL by storm in his rookie season, leading his team to an NFC Championship game while winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

For some, Daniels is expected to continue his ascension into the upper echelon of quarterbacks in football, but a 12-5 season and NFC Championship appearance make it a tough thing to replicate.
Still, fans and media alike are bullish on Daniels and the Commanders in 2025, and perhaps none more so than FS1’s Colin Cowherd, who made a mind-blowing comparison when talking about Jayden.
“This kid is Lamar [Jackson] plus [Patrick] Mahomes,” Cowherd said. “His poise in the fourth quarter doesn’t make sense. And here’s the thing, the NFL gives you an all-time quarterback legend about every six years, and I’m talking Peyton Manning, [John] Elway, Mahomes, [Brett] Favre.
“I’m telling you, he singularly won a road playoff game. And I thought Andrew Luck was the best quarterback I ever saw as a rookie.”

Whew, right, Colin, that is quite the bar you have just set for Jayden.

We get it. Daniels showed everything you would want in a franchise quarterback in Year 1. He has the ability, first of all, as both a passer and runner, and then his intangibles late in games – he never seems to get flustered.
But the Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes comparisons might be a little much, and let’s not forget it has only been one year for Daniels in the league.
Let’s see what he produces in 2025 before making any definitive comments, but things in the nation’s capital are going well right now, and Jayden is a big reason why.
