After the Record-Breaking Success of College Football, EA Sports Is Bringing Back Basketball 1

EA Sports College Football 25 is the best-selling sports game in US history, so it’s perhaps no surprise the publisher has its eyes on the prize when it comes to basketball.

2K Sports has a stranglehold on professional basketball with its NBA 2K series, which beat out EA Sports’ own NBA Live franchise years ago.

But the publisher has today announced plans to bring back college basketball.

While the announcement barely amounts to anything more than an image of an immaculately rendered basketball and the words “bring the madness” and “let’s run it back”, the hashtag CBB (or College Basketball) confirms the publisher’s plans.

There’s nothing like College Sports 🔥— EASPORTSCollege (@EASPORTSCollege) June 30, 2025

The last NCAA Basketball game launched in 2009 on the PS3, so it’s been over 15 years since the last entry in the series. College Hoops 2K8 signalled 2K Sports’ exit from the category even earlier in 2007.

We suspect it’s going to take a few years for EA Sports to spin up this title, but considering the success of EA Sports College Football 25, it knows there’s a lot of money on the line here.

It’ll be interesting to see whether 2K Sports greenlights its own rival, or just cedes the category to EA Sports entirely.
