New uniforms are on the way for the Denver Broncos.

Don’t get too alarmed — or too excited — these are not new primary uniforms. Rather, it’s an additional alternate.

The NFL announced last week that new “Rivalries” uniforms will debut this season, starting with the AFC East and NFC West. Two divisions will be featured in the “Rivarlies” series over the next four years — 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028 — covering all 32 teams.

The new uniform designs will be “born from local community insights during select home games against division rivals,” according to a press release from the NFL.

The AFC West (and NFC East) will join the rotation in 2027. So we can expect a new look for the Broncos to arrive in two years — and then remain in the rotation.

“Following their reveal, these Rivalries uniforms will be included in their team’s uniform lineup for three years after introduction, in addition to existing alternate uniforms,” the NFL said in a statement.

Some fans have pushed for Denver to wear its existing 1977-inspired throwback uniforms at home for AFC West games, but these new “Rivalries” uniforms will be unique designs specifically for a division game, not an existing throwback.

“Each participating team will wear a unique Rivalries uniform with designs rooted extensively in local community insights during a single home game against a division rival,” the NFL said.

So, why is the NFL doing this? While not expressly stated as the reason, the NFL gave a hint in its release.

“Fans will be able to show their support by purchasing new jerseys, sideline apparel and fan gear, including T-shirts, hoodies, jackets and headwear.”

More uniforms equal more money.

Perhaps one day the Broncos will be allowed to wear a road version of their current alternate uniform in away games. In the meantime, fans can look forward to a new design in 2027.
