This focuses on quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

Jacoby Brissett background, 2024 season

Brissett is in his first season with the Cardinals, signing a two-year contract as a free agent. He is entering his 10th NFL season. He was originally drafted in th third round by the New England Patriots in 2016. He has been a journeyman starter and backup in his career, starting 53 times in the 87 games in which he has appeared. He is 19-34 in his 53 starts. His 1.4% interception rate is the lowest in NFL history.

Last season, back with the Patriots for one season, he started the first five games of the season before rookie Drake Maye took over. He went 1-4 and went on to play in eight games. He completed 59.0% of his passes for 826 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

Jacoby Brissett 2025 contract details, cap hit

He signed a two-year, $12.5 million deal to sign with the Cardinals in March. He received a $3.5 million signing bonus and will make $3 million in salary, fully guaranteed. He can earn up to $510,000 in per-game roster bonuses. His contract has a $5.1 million cap hit in 2025.

Questions he faces, roster outlook

Brissett doesn’t really face any questions this offseason. He comes in with a clear role, to back up Kyler Murray. The Cardinals want to compete this year, and in the case that Murray gets hurt, they want someone steady who can come in for him. Brissett has that track record.

Brissett is who he is.

As for making the roster, this isn’t a situation like last year when the Cardinals traded for Desmond Ridder and he and Clayton Tune battled for the backup spot, which Tune eventually won.

Brissett is the clear No. 2 on the roster, even if there is “competition.” His guaranteed salary indicates that the Cardinals expect him to make the roster and be Murray’s backup.
