Cowboys Trade Of Micah Parsons To Patriots Rumor Gets NFL Insiders Traction originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

FRISCO – Where did the idea come from that suggests the future of Micah Parsons is with the New England Patriots? And from a Dallas Cowboys perspective, where is this idea going?

It is now gaining enough traction that FS1’s Colin Cowherd was joined by SI’s Albert Breer in a video segment billed thusly: “Are the New England Patriots eyeing Dallas Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons?”

Weirdly, as far as we can tell, they never actually get around to the subject … but it’s in the headline, which is good enough for us to wonder …

Why?

If Cowherd was (at least planning on) talking about it, and if Breer was prepared to do the same, does that mean there is something “there” there?

Well, frankly … nope.

The origin of this new rumor comes courtesy of a slop-fest piece on the NESN site in Boston, which is telling us that the Patriots are “eyeing” the Parsons situation, presumably with some sort of a top-secret plan to trade for him.

There are no quotes. The information isn’t sourced. And yet they allow themselves to write that the Patriots are “watching the market” on Parsons, which, by the way, is all about Parsons being interested in signing a lengthy five-year deal at around $40 million per season with the $200 million total helping to make him the highest-paid non-QB ever.

NESN plows on by quoting Pats coach Mike Vrabel’s very generic comment about roster-building and pretending it has something to do with Parsons.

“Trying to always continually make the roster more competitive … that has to happen,” Vrabel said recently.

Sure. But that has nothing do with Parsons and the Cowboys.

NESN concludes, however that Vrabel’s “search may soon include some of the biggest names still waiting to get paid” – like Parsons.

The facts: As we write this, there is no movement. There is no trade. There is no change as Parsons wants to be a “Cowboy for Life.” And if the Patriots want to “watch” Micah Parsons right now?

They’ll have to do it via video, just like the rest of us.
