Following the numerous changes that occurred in Nashville during the offseason, excitement is building around the Tennessee Titans as they prepare for training camp. That is a far cry from where they were at the end of the disappointing 2024 season.

After the Titans fired general manager Ran Carthon, many wondered about the fate of head coach Brian Callahan, who orchestrated the debacle in 2024.

The season was so bad that many wondered if Callahan would survive his first season at the helm.

After the Titans decided to hire Mike Borgonzi, chatter around Callahan quieted once free agency and the draft took center stage. But it begs the question of whether he can afford another dismal season in 2025? That is the question Mike Florio posed when discussing coaches on the hot seat, and where Callahan may fall on that list.

One of the most prominent parts of the conversation centered on Chad Brinker and Borgonzi, neither of whom was involved in the hiring of Callahan in 2024.

In Tennessee, Chad Brinker became, after 2024, the latest winner of the in-house power struggle. He’s running the show, with Mike Borgonzi now the G.M. The latest iteration of mismatched front office/coach could result in Speck/Borgonzi wanting their own head coach after the coming season.

Florio makes a valid point, one that was discussed in January when Borgonzi took over. New general managers often change coaches and quarterbacks when they come into an organization, and to this point, the Titans have only done one of those by drafting Cam Ward first overall.

Throughout the offseason, Borgonzi and Callahan have appeared to be in unison regarding the changes made by the organization. Looking back, the entire offseason has moved the team in a positive direction, thanks to coaching staff changes and player acquisitions. This could be a great sign, and increased success could be on the horizon.

It could also be an excellent benefit for Ward, whose development could go smoother if Callahan sticks around. No young quarterback can truly succeed with a revolving door of coaches and systems. He needs consistency and continuity.

With training camp only weeks away, Callahan is in a better place than he was in 2024. However, he does need to feel some heat as they enter camp, and the Titans need to improve.
