The Los Angeles Rams created more financial wiggle room after their 2022 season. That monetary cushion now gives them leverage to try and bring back Jalen Ramsey.

Except an NFC West rival has emerged as a new trade candidate for the former Rams cornerback.

The Miami Dolphins CB was never moved during the NFL Draft. Miami lost out on adding 2025 draft picks to sharpen a Ramsey trade deal. Nick Shook of the NFL Network still believes Ramsey will be a trade asset. He now lists Rams division rival the Arizona Cardinals as a new contender to land him Thursday.

“With $32 million in cap available to use in 2025, Arizona has space to bring in more recognizable names. What better way to elevate this formerly anonymous unit to a higher level than by acquiring Ramsey, a seven-time Pro Bowler who could fit in opposite Sean Murphy-Bunting and add depth to the young secondary?” Shook asked.

This scenario additionally pairs Ramsey opposite of another Super Bowl winning DB. Murphy-Bunting won the Super Bowl a year before Ramsey won his ring. Adding Ramsey also fuels new playoff chatter in Glendale and the Phoenix region.

“Trading for Ramsey would signal the Cardinals are serious about contending in 2025, a crucial season for Gannon, who is entering his third campaign as coach,” Shook said. “In a division that includes the Rams, Seahawks and 49ers, it’s worth exploring.”

Still, Rams fans can’t fathom the fact of seeing Ramsey play L.A. twice a year. They already have to deal with Cooper Kupp twice a year this fall, after he signed with the rival Seattle Seahawks.

This doesn’t rule out the Rams completely. Los Angeles still presents a questionable secondary that features 2026 free agents. Re-adding Ramsey makes the unit more respectable. Plus Miami takes on more than $24 million in Ramsey’s remaining salary if the Rams do land him.
