JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Former Jacksonville Jaguars star linebacker Telvin Smith was arrested Thursday and accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, according to Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office jail records.
Smith, 34, was booked into the jail early Friday morning and held on a bond of $5,000. He had his first appearance before a judge at 1 p.m. on Friday.
Details surrounding his arrest were not immediately released.
In 2021, Smith pleaded no contest after being charged with having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl.

As part of the plea agreement with the State Attorney’s Office, Smith was put on probation for three years, although one year was waived due to the time he was out on bond after his arrest.
Smith was a star player for the Jaguars during the team’s postseason run in 2017 and played five seasons for the team.
Smith, a fifth-round draft pick from Florida State in 2014 and a Pro Bowl selection in 2017, announced in 2020 he was stepping away from football to “get my world in order.”
He has not played in the NFL since.
