The Indianapolis Colts have reportedly brought in a former third-round pick at quarterback for a tryout during minicamp.

No. 0 is Desmond Ridder. He’s a tryout participant at #Colts minicamp.

Ridder, who played with Indy WR Alec Pierce at the University of Cincinnati, was with the Raiders last year and started one game. The 2022 3R pick started 17 games for the Falcons (4 in 2022 and 13 in 2023). https://t.co/Jy9UnLWZ1f

With Anthony Richardson sidelined during minicamp this week, the Indianapolis Colts are having former third-round pick Desmond Ridder in for a tryout, according to The Athletic’s James Boyd.

Ridder was a third-round selection in the 2022 NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons out of Cincinnati, where, as Boyd mentions, he was teammates with Colts‘ wide receiver Alec Pierce.

During Ridder’s first two seasons with the Falcons, he appeared in 19 games, which included 17 starts, 13 of which came during the 2023 season. In that span of games, Ridder completed 64% of his passes with 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Last offseason, after the Falcons signed Kirk Cousins, they traded Ridder to the Arizona Cardinals. He was later released during roster cutdowns in late August before catching on with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he played in six games and made one start.

Prior to Tuesday’s practice, head coach Shane Steichen confirmed that Anthony Richardson was getting another opinion on his shoulder. Without Richardson, Daniel Jones will be getting a lot of the reps, and the Colts also have Riley Leonard and Jason Bean on the roster at quarterback as well.
