With the NFL offseason winding down and players resting up for the start of training camp, the NFL news cycle begins to change. This is also a time when fantasy football rankings start to drop, and fantasy football analysts can come up with hot takes and fantasy sleepers, all in an attempt to help players slowly build their draft boards for the upcoming season.Â
Finding value at the tight end position for a fantasy team can make the difference in a season. This can also be a challenge for fantasy football players. Moe Moton embraced this challenge and came up with his own list of 8 bold fantasy football predictions, and his list includes one member of the Tennessee Titans.Â
Chig Okonkwo Breaks Out as Top-10 TE
Fantasy managers have been eagerly waiting for Tennessee Titans tight end Chig Okonkwo to break out. He has the athleticism and hands to create favorable matchups, but it hasn’t amounted to a standout season yet.
Though Okonkwo has posted decent numbers in all three of his campaigns, he has yet to finish higher than TE21 in PPR leagues. However, this year could be different for him.
The Tennessee Titans selected Miami quarterback Cameron Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft. He could provide a spark in the passing attack with his ability to make accurate throws all over the field. He completed 66.9 percent of his pass attempts and averaged 322 passing yards over his last two collegiate seasons.
In Tennessee, Ward has a lead wide receiver in Calvin Ridley, but he doesn’t have a clear-cut No. 2 option in the passing game.
In free agency, the Titans signed Tyler Lockett, who’s past his prime and has seen his receiving numbers decline since 2022. They also brought in Van Jefferson, who has just one 50-catch season on his five-year resume.
Rookie fourth-rounders Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor will compete for roles. Xavier Restrepo played with Ward at Miami, but the undrafted rookie may have an uphill battle for a spot in the receiver rotation.
After a few solid seasons, Okonkwo has an opportunity to take on a bigger role as a dynamic, big-bodied (6’3″, 238 lbs) playmaker and red-zone target in the Titans offense. If he takes advantage of a larger target share, the fourth-year tight end should finally break out in 2025.
Okonkwo has been a hot name in fantasy circles recently and does have the potential to break out in 2025 after flashing some big-play potential in 2024. The veteran tight end has been shown getting in some extra work with rookie quarterback Cam Ward in Miami to help build chemistry. Okonkwo is also in his contract year, which always adds some additional motivation for a player to improve production.Â
An athletic target, he has all the tools needed to be a top-flight tight end and began to show signs of heading in that direction during the tail end of the 2024 season, when he became a go-to weapon for the Titans’ offense in the final weeks of the season. Now, with a better offensive line and potentially more consistent quarterback play, he will be looking to build upon those performances and make a name for himself in fantasy circles.Â
