The initial wave of free agency is behind us, and the Indianapolis Colts made two splash signings in the secondary, along with some depth additions elsewhere as well.
So, with these recent signings, what’s the current outlook of the Colts’ roster? There will likely me some more signings–although probably not anything major–but where do things stand roster-wise at this time?

Quarterback
It will be an open competition at quarterback this season, and the Colts brought in Daniel Jones to compete with Anthony Richardson. It had been reported that Jones was who the Colts wanted prior to free agency, and they paid a relatively hefty contract to land him. Jones signed a one-year deal worth $14 million and maxes out at $17.7 million.
Running back
GM Chris Ballard said at the NFL combine that the Colts need more production from the backup running back role. However, with it being a deep running back class, I would guess they make an addition there over free agency.

The Colts re-signed Dulin, which should have been expected, but there’s really no need to further add here.
Tight end
A big need, but this year’s free-agent class at the position wasn’t very deep. However, the draft class is among the deeper position groups out there this year. So, that’s a recipe for tackling this need in April.
Offensive line
Losing Ryan Kelly was expected, but replacing Will Fries will take some maneuvering. This could mean Matt Goncalves slides from tackle to right guard with Braden Smith returning on a revised deal. At a minimum, interior depth and a swing tackle should still be added.

Defensive line
Defensive tackle is a big need. For one, improved play behind Buckner and Stewart was a need last season, but with only four defensive tackles on the roster currently, added depth is a must as well.
Linebacker
Perhaps Jaylon Carlies can step into the starting nickel linebacker role next to Zaire Franklin. As a former college safety, he can add that needed coverage ability to the position. However, that shouldn’t be assumed either and adding competition for that job should be on Ballard’s radar.
CornerbackSafety
What a 180 the secondary has made over the last two days. All of a sudden, the Colts’ starting defensive backfield looks quite good. From a numbers standpoint, safety could still use another addition or two.
