The New York Jets announced the creation of Jets Flag Elite, a girls flag football club travel team. In its first year, Jets Flag Elite will compete in the High School division for 5-on-5 Flag Football Tournaments at the local, regional and national levels. Jets Flag Elite will be coached by Ridgewood High School Girls Flag Head Coach Mickey McDermott. Coach McDermott has led Ridgewood High School to back-to-back New Jersey High School Flag Football Championships. Victoria Burgarella will serve as the team’s assistant coach. Coach Burgarella is currently the head coach of the Xavierian High School flag football team.
The team will feature top players from New Jersey and New York. Jets Flag Elite’s mission is to support, elevate, and empower girls’ flag football by giving these young athletes the opportunity to connect with the Jets team and experience football at a more professional level. The Jets are covering all costs including uniforms, equipment and tournament fees for the players. The only cost incurred will be transportation. The resources provided will develop girls flag football at the elite level, provide pathways to college scholarships and support opportunities for the USA National team as girls flag becomes an Olympic Sport in 2028.
