NFL Draft: Sanders falls out of Round 1, Jags take Travis Hunter at No. 2

USA TODAY Sports’ Mackenzie Salmon breaks down the biggest storylines from Round 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Sports Pulse

The first day of the 2025 NFL Draft is in the books, but the league’s annual player selection event is just getting started.

There are still 225 picks left to be made over the draft’s final two days. Day 2 will feature 70 of those picks, and the Cleveland Browns are scheduled to kickstart Round 2 with the 33rd selection.

Plenty of high-end talent remains on the board for Round 2. Notably, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders was not chosen in the first round, and he is expected to come off the board early on Friday night.

Meanwhile, defensive stars like Donovan Ezeiruaku, Mike Green and Will Johnson are also projected to be chosen early on Day 2 after being first-round staples across mock drafts. Several other notable college football stars – including Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe and Ohio State signal-caller Will Howard – may also go within the top 100 selections.

While the 2025 NFL Draft class wasn’t viewed as having a lot of high-end talent, it is considered deep. Teams should be able to land multiple starters on Day 2, so NFL fans will want to pay close attention to who their favorite teams are targeting and who the top talents on the board are when their squad is selecting.
