Two Green Bay Packers teams — one a Super Bowl winner, the other a 15-1 finisher — ended up among Frank Schaub’s top 25 NFL teams of the last 25 years for Yahoo! Sports.

The list is mostly dominated by Super Bowl winning teams from New England and Kansas City, but the Packers ended up with two representatives: the 2010 team that won Super Bowl XLV, and the 2011 team that went 15-1 during the regular season.

Schaub called the 2010 Packers “probably the best six-loss team ever” and ranked them at No. 13. Three spots higher, at No. 10, was the 2011 Packers, who started 13-0, scored 560 points and finished with 15 regular season wins.

In 2010, the Packers produced the No. 2 overall scoring defense, but it took a late run after Aaron Rodgers’ return from a concussion to win the franchise’s fourth Lombardi Trophy. After three straight road playoff wins, Green Bay took down the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 in Super Bowl XLV.

After winning six straight games between the regular season and postseason to end the 2010 season, the Packers ripped off 13 straight wins to start 2011. Schaub called Rodgers’ MVP season “almost perfect” and maybe the “best” quarterback season ever. The Packers offense was a juggernaut, and the defense forced 38 takeaways despite giving up a ton of yards, but Mike McCarthy’s team was upset at home by the New York Giants in the divisional round of the postseason. Green Bay’s 15-1 record was still the best ever for a defending Super Bowl champ.

The Packers were one win away from facing Schaub’s No. 1 team — the 2007 Patriots — in the Super Bowl, and the Packers beat the No. 2 team — the 2019 Chiefs — in the regular season. Two teams from the 2014 season made the list: the Patriots team that lost at Lambeau Field during the regular season, and the Seahawks team that shocked the Packers in the NFC title game. The 2024 Eagles, who beat the Packers twice last season, ended up as the No. 8 team.

With wins in the NFC title game in 2007 or 2014 or 2020, the Packers could have easily had a third representative on the list. Alas, the Packers ended up with just the single Super Bowl appearance despite winning the third most regular season games and fifth most playoff games over the last 25 years.

Getting to the Super Bowl is tough even for the elite teams. Consider this: six of Schaub’s top 25 teams, including the 2011 Packers, didn’t win a single playoff game and were upset in the divisional round despite truly dominant regular season performances.
