DENVER (KDVR) — Before drafting rookie quarterback Bo Nix, the Denver Broncos had been looking for a long-term quarterback for almost a decade. One of those quarterbacks could have been Josh Allen, who is now heading to the AFC Championship with the Buffalo Bills.

In the 2018 NFL draft, the Broncos had the fifth pick after their 5-11 season. Allen was still up for grabs, but Denver decided on defensive end Bradley Chubb instead. Allen was drafted seventh by the Bills.

Chubb didn’t disappoint during his time with the Broncos. Chubb recorded 60 combined tackles, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles and one pass deflection in his first year. He was also named Pro Football Writers of America All-Team Rookie.

He stayed with the team for five years before moving to the Miami Dolphins.

Meanwhile, the Broncos were still looking for a long-term quarterback.

Since Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler led the team to the playoffs in 2015, the Broncos have gone through 13 different starting quarterbacks in 10 years before landing on Nix. Meanwhile, Allen has been slowly chugging with the Bills to a winning season.

Now, Allen is one step closer to a spot at the Super Bowl as he’s heading to the AFC Championship against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Former quarterback John Elway has since admitted that it was a mistake not to draft Allen while he was the general manager of the Broncos.

“The was probably my biggest mistake of my GM days was not taking Josh,” Elway said in the “Pardon My Take” talk show in July 2024.

While Nix brought the Broncos to the playoffs for the first time in a decade, Allen led the drive, beating out the Broncos during the first round of the playoffs. Now, the Bills will face the Chiefs for a chance at the Super Bowl.
