Will the Jacksonville Jaguars return to prime time in 2025?
The Jaguars played one prime-time game in 2024, getting shellacked by the Buffalo Bills 47-10 in Week 3 on Monday Night Football.
It was the second year in a row the Jags appeared on MNF after not being there since 2011.
The Jaguars were also slated to play a Sunday Night Football game in Week 9 against the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, but after the Jaguars started the season with a 2-6 record, the game was flexed back to 4:05 p.m.
The Jaguars in 2023 played their first Sunday Night Football game since 2008.
In 2024, the Jaguars played 12 games at 1 p.m., two London games at 9:30 a.m., two 4 p.m. games and the aforementioned Monday Night Football game. The Jaguars finished the season 4-13.
As we near the NFL’s 2025 schedule being released on May 14, the Jaguars might get some extra special attention after trading up to select Travis Hunter with the second overall pick in the NFL Draft.
The Jaguars also will feature new head coach Liam Coen, new general manager James Gladstone and new Executive Vice President of Football Operations Tony Boselli.
Trevor Lawrence also returns after shoulder surgery.
The Jaguars have nine home games (one will be in London) and eight away games.
Here are our predictions on some of their 2025 games.
Jaguars’ first game of 2025: vs. New York Jets
The Jaguars have started their season on the road for four years in a row.
I suspect they’ll finally get to start their season at home to showcase their shiny new receiver/corner, Travis Hunter.
The last team to play the Jaguars in a season opener at EverBank Stadium was the Indianapolis Colts in 2020. Since then, the Jags have opened the season at Houston (2021), at Washington (2022), at Indianapolis (2023) and at Miami (2024). They are 1-3 in those games, only defeating the Colts.
Last year, the Jaguars started at the Dolphins. I think this season they get things going against another AFC East member, the New York Jets.
Jaguars’ final game of 2025: vs. Tennessee Titans
During the past five years, the Jaguars have ended their season against two teams: the Tennessee Titans and the Indianapolis Colts. The are 2-3.
The past two years, they’ve lost their season finales on the road, at the Colts in 2024 and at the Titans in 2023.
The last time they won a finale was in 2022, against the Titans.
The Jaguars have opened and closed the season on the road the past three seasons.
This year, it will be the first time since 2019 that they start and end the season in Jacksonville. This time, it will be against the Tennessee Titans.
Jaguars back to one London Game: vs. Carolina Panthers
The Jaguars played two games in London in both 2023 and 2024. For the 2025 season, they return to just one game across the Atlantic.
Considering the Jaguars have multiple home games scheduled against teams from the Mountain and West time zones, you’d figure they’ll play a team from the East Coast.
I wouldn’t think they’d move a division home game to London, so the best candidate would be the Carolina Panthers.
Thursday Night Football: At Las Vegas
The Jaguars did not play a Thursday night game in 2024.
They will return to Thursday at the Las Vegas Raiders.
In 2024, the Jaguars played at Las Vegas for the first time, and this will be the second year in a row they will visit Sin City.
It would be fun to see the Raiders, with their new running back Ashton Jeanty, a Jacksonville native, play his hometown team in front of a national audience.
Sunday Night Football: At Cincinnati
The Jaguars snapped their long Sunday Night Football drought in 2023 after not playing in that spot since 2008.
They also snapped their Monday Night Football drought in 2023 when they played the Cincinnati Bengals. They hadn’t been on MNF since 2011.
This year, the Jaguars at Bengals matchup makes more sense on a Sunday night than a Monday night. It would likely happen early in the season, just in case the Jaguars quickly fall out of contention.
It will be interesting to see if the revamped Jags defense, which was among the worst in the league last year, will be able to keep up with Joe Burrow and the Bengals’ explosive offense. Travis Hunter could be in for a long night.
Jaguars on Monday Night Football: Not likely to happen
The Jaguars host the Chiefs, so that game could potentially be a Monday Night Football candidate, but I’m just too cynical that the league would give the Jags its biggest weekly spotlight game.
Given Trevor Lawrence’s underachieving career thus far, the Trevor vs. Patrick Mahomes matchup doesn’t hold a lot of luster.
However, the cameras love to show Taylor Swift, so you never know.
