The Los Angeles Rams made it clear in each of the last two years that they wanted to get better at tight end. That’s not to say Tyler Higbee wasn’t still a centerpiece of the offense, but their (failed) attempts to land Dalton Kincaid and Brock Bowers prove they knew there was room for improvement.
NFL coaches, executives and scouts clearly understand Higbee is on the decline based on this year’s tight end rankings for ESPN. Higbee didn’t receive a single vote as a top tight end this offseason, which puts him outside the 22 best players at his position.

That’s down from last year when he was in the “also receiving votes” category and the year prior as an honorable mention just outside the top 10.
No other Rams tight ends received a vote, either, which isn’t surprising. Terrance Ferguson isn’t eligible as a rookie and Colby Parkinson isn’t close to being a top tight end.
It’s possible Ferguson will vault into the top 10 or 15 by this time next year, seeing as Brock Bowers went from first-round rookie to being voted the best tight end in football – the first time ever a player has been voted No. 1 at his position in his second season.
Ferguson comes with a lot of promise as a rookie out of Oregon, testing as the most athletic tight end in the 2025 class at the NFL combine. He may not start right away with Higbee still in the picture, but at some point this season, Ferguson will show what made the Rams fall in love with his skill set in the draft.
