The Laurens High School football team is coming off a tough 2024 season in which the Raiders only won one game. The program has not had a winning season since 2021, but head coach Greg Porter said he took over the program last year because he loves seeing kids who fail succeed. Porter is hopeful his second year at the helm of the program will be much better than his first.”Year 1 was a blur, a lot of things happened so fast my head was spinning,” Porter said. “But things have calmed down. Got a staff, we are growing together, and players are growing together, and we are grateful to be here.”Porter’s team is young — only four starters return on offense and two on defense. The Raiders’ starting quarterback, Logan Bragg, is also a freshman. His players might be young, but Porter is excited about their potential.”Excellent students in the classroom, and they work hard in the field,” Porter said. “Just going to be a little young, so have to be patient as we go through bumps.”Porter said his team’s offensive line is the strongest part of his team right now. He said he will define success this season by the way his team gives it their all every Friday night.”Just compete every time,” Porter said. “Every time we step on the field, we compete and we don’t quit and that people who come watch us play say we see an improvement. And that’s what we are going to build off. Take one play at a time, brick by brick, day by day. That’s what we are going to do.”Laurens opens its season against Hillcrest on Aug. 22.Pigskin Previews:Christ ChurchDaniel LionsDorman CavaliersFountain Inn FuryPendleton BulldogsSouthside TigersSpartanburg Vikings
