One of the biggest questions facing the Tennessee Titans before the NFL draft was centered on the wide receiver position. Even general manager Mike Borgonzi acknowledged the need to attack the position during the draft, and they did exactly that.Â
They started to reinforce the receiving corps before the draft by signing veteran Tyler Lockett to a one-year deal. The move gives new quarterback Cam Ward another experienced option opposite Calvin Ridley and adds veteran leadership to the room.
They followed up his signing with the selection of three receiving threats during the draft. In the fourth round, the Titans took wide receivers Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor along with tight end Gunnar Helm, making them the first team in NFL history to use three picks in the same round on skill position players.Â
In a recent article for Pro Football Focus (PFF), Trevor Sikkema outlined one of those three skill position players as his favorite Titans’ selection in this draft class.Â
TENNESSEE TITANS: WR ELIC AYOMANOR (ROUND 4, PICK 136)
Anomanor lasting until the fourth round was not on my bingo card, and I believe the Titans got a steal. His 8.7% drop rate in 2024 had to be a catalyst for that, but there are so many positives to his game — blocking, contested catches in the red zone, and deep speed for a big receiver. I think he can be the WR2 in Tennessee.
Ayomanor was a surprise being available at that spot, and it was a solid move by the front office to move up a couple of spots to grab him. While he does need to hit the Jugs machine to work on his hands, he has the size, speed, and overall skill set that make him an intriguing complement to Calvin Ridley.Â
Ayomanor will have a chance to compete for playing time early in what has suddenly become a crowded receiving room, making this an entertaining competition to watch throughout the summer and into training camp.Â
