GREEN BAY (WLUK) – The Green Bay Packers wrapped up rookie minicamp on Saturday morning with a practice that featured 38 total players.
While there were a lot of players in attendance, all eyes were on the Packers’ eight 2025 draft picks.
All eight selections were eager to get inside the Don Hutson Center for their first workout in Green Bay.
Packers fourth-round draft pick Barryn Sorrell, whose surprise appearance in Green Bay was one of the highlights of the draft, couldn’t wait to get on his green and gold gear.
“I mean this is what I want to do. This the part I’m most excited about. Actually, you know, putting on this gear and going out there on the field,” Sorrell said.
Green Bay’s second-round selection Anthony Belton said it’s exciting to be in Green Bay, but the offensive lineman admitted it’s also a bit nerve-racking.
“It’s a new environment. You’re around people you’re not really too familiar with,” Belton said. “But also it’s like, you’re excited because this is what you’ve been wanting to do since you were a kid. A lifelong dream.”
Packers coaches were in attendance for Saturday’s minicamp, including head coach Matt Lafleur.
LaFleur spent time around all eight rookies and some of the tryout players, especially Canadian quarterback Taylor Elgersma.
Elgersma was the only quarterback at rookie minicamp. The Packers hosted him for a pre-draft top 30 visit after passing game coordinator Jason Vrable saw him at the Senior Bowl and other college football showcases.
LaFleur was asked what he looks for when he brings in a quarterback for a tryout.
“I think you’re just looking for traits. Coming from where he’s coming from to this level, I think there’s going to be a big learning curve,” LaFleur said. “But if there’s anybody that will attack it head on, Taylor will. That was so evident when he was here on the 30 visit.”
The Packers head coach said rookie camp is about getting players to “knock off the jitters” and prepare them for what’s to come.
“You just want to get them acclimated as fast as possible because the next time that they’re in here, it’s going to be phase two and they’re going to be in with the vets,” LaFleur said.
For Packers third-round selection Savion Williams, he’s focused on picking up the playbook.
“Just learn the plays. Just you know, seeing what I need to do so when I get back next week it will just come smooth,” Williams said.
Fifth-round pick Collin Oliver echoed that sentiment while adding he hopes to pick the brains of some of the veteran players.
“Meeting some of the guys and seeing what they do off the field in terms of their body and taking care of it,” Oliver said.
The rookies will join the veterans when OTAs begin on May 27th.
