Training camp is almost here for the Jacksonville Jaguars, so let’s take a look at what their current roster on defense looks like.
The Jaguars‘ first training camp practice will take place on July 23rd, with the rookies reporting on the 19th and the veterans on the 22nd.
There is still the possibility during this time of the year that an addition–and subsequent roster subtraction–can be made. GM James Gladstone still has the salary cap flexibility to tweak his roster. But largely, the team we see right now is the one that will carry the Jaguars through training camp and the preseason.
You can take a look at the Jaguars’ roster on offense here, but now let’s dive into the current makeup of the Jaguars’ training camp roster on defense.

The play of the defensive tackle position will be one of the position groups that will have my attention this summer. Other than Arik Armstead moving from defensive end to tackle, there really were no major personnel moves made at this position. That showcases the belief GM James Gladstone has in the players already on the roster, as well as Anthony Campanile’s scheme. At defensive end, Gladstone prioritized building the depth there, with three veteran additions made.

It’ll be interesting to see what the final depth chart looks like here. With the additions of Jalen McLeod and Jack Kiser in the draft, this has become a crowded position group. Along with Devin Lloyd and Foye Oluokun starting, Ventrell Miller, Yasir Abdullah, and Chad Muma all saw snaps to varying degrees last season.

Playing time opposite of Tyson Campbell will be up for grabs with Travis Hunter, Montaric Brown, and Jarrian Jones all vying for snaps. According to ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, Brown saw a lot of the first-team reps during offseason programs. It’ll also be interesting to see who can secure that potential final roster spot–if the Jaguars keep six cornerbacks on the 53-man–between Braswell, Prince, Muhammad, Slaughter, White, and McPhearson.

The starting spot next to Eric Murray is available, and the Jaguars have a number of players competing for that role, including Ransaw, Savage, Johnson, and Wingard. The team also drafted Lane, while Thomas was a core special teams contributor last season. So, how this position group shakes out when it comes to the final roster will be worth monitoring as well.
