(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) With the Kansas City Chiefs set to open up training camp to the public, the sweltering heat could take a toll on many people as they sit and watch the four time Super Bowl champs.

As temperatures are set to rise in the mid to upper 90s for the start of training camp, Mosaic Life Care staff is prepared to help fans who experience any heat related incidents.

“People underestimate what that sun does as they’re sitting here watching our Chiefs do their practice,” said Trauma Stroke Program Manager, Jonathan Eivins. “As you’re sitting there, you’re absorbing all that heat off the bleachers from the sun, and if you’re not properly clothed, then you’re going to absorb that heat and you’re going to feel rather sick.”

Currently the Chiefs have a clear bag policy and many restrictions for training camp, which only allows fans to bring a 20oz factory sealed water bottle into camp to stay cool.

Even though there are many restrictions, Mosaic Life Care has misting tents, a new shaded area for fans, and much more to beat the rising temperatures.

“We have high ice packs, we’re going to have a cooling tub, and we’ve got misting tents placed around the training camp,” said Eivins. “We will have Mosaic caregivers stationed around the whole training camp in certain areas that are watching all the attendees that are here at camp. If they see somebody that is not feeling very good, or something happens, then we’ve got somebody instantly there for them.”

Eivins also shared some signs for fans to look out for incase they or someone else is experiencing heat exhaustion.

“When you’re having heat exhaustion, you’re sweating, sweating, sweating, and then all of a sudden, you can look on your skin, and you’ll have some some goose bumps and some chills,” said Eivins. “That’s the point where your body is telling you it’s compensating for being overheated and you need to kind of take care of yourself. When that happens, your body temperature will rise internally, and then you’ll be in pretty bad trouble.”

Mosaic Life Care staff at training camp, will all be trauma trained to help fans experiencing a heat related incident. Mosaic staff will be wearing blue shirts everyday at camp to help fans easily identify them.
