ESPN analyst Jordan Reid has released his early 2026 mock draft, projecting how the first round might unfold a year from now. The San Francisco 49ers already strengthened their defensive front this year, selecting pass rusher Mykel Williams with the 11th overall pick and adding two defensive tackles in later rounds.

Many believed another pressing need was the offensive line—particularly at offensive tackle—a position group the team largely overlooked. With aging veteran Trent Williams anchoring the left side, it seemed logical that Reid would project the 49ers to target a tackle.

Instead, Reid has San Francisco again turning to defense, predicting the team will select Clemson cornerback Avieon Terrell in the first round.

The pick comes at No. 27 overall, based on Super Bowl odds from ESPN BET. San Francisco currently holds the sixth-best odds according to the sportsbook.

“At 5-11 and 180 pounds, Terrell is smaller than older brother A.J., who plays corner for the Falcons,” Reid wrote. “But Avieon Terrell is a pest for opposing receivers, as his 11 pass breakups tied for the 15th most in the FBS last season. The loaded Clemson defensive front should bring a lot of pressure this season, which could lead to more interceptions for Terrell (two).”

The 49ers have Deommodore Lenoir and last year’s second-round pick, Renardo Green, in the cornerback room. They lost Charvarius Ward in free agency but added Tre Brown and drafted Upton Stout in the third round.

Reid concluded, “The 49ers still need their Charvarius Ward replacement.”
