Chicago Bears Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson is expected to miss some time with a leg injury, GM Ryan Poles said Tuesday.
Speaking the day before the Bears are set to hold their first practice, Poles said that Johnson suffered the injury while getting ready for the upcoming season, and that they’re going to allow him time to rehab the ailment, placing him on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.
“It is going to take a few weeks before he can come back. We have a lot of faith that he’s going to put in the time to rehab and be his full self when he comes back,” he said.
Poles said the team is “not overly concerned” about Johnson’s status for the start of the regular season, and promised updates as camp gets underway.
Three other players placed on the NFI list by the Bears prior to camp have been activated, including quarterback Case Keenum, who was dealing with a soft tissue injury, according to Poles. Undrafted rookie wide receiver Jahdae Walker and running back Ian Wheeler were activated on Tuesday from the NFI list.
Johnson set a career high last season with 53 total tackles while also forcing a fumble and grabbing two interceptions. He made the Pro Bowl for the second-consecutive season with the Bears, and is entering the second year of a 4-year, $76 million deal he signed with the team in the 2024 offseason.
