One of the unique aspects of football is that it’s challenging to see all of its stars’ faces. Sure, there are close-ups on Baltimore Ravens TV broadcasts, but each player’s facemask can, at times, rob the viewer of the opportunity to get a good look at their favorite players.
So, even though there are casual fans who may know names, they don’t necessarily know what their favorite players look like. Sure, they can pick quarterbacks out of a lineup. Everyone knows who the quarterback is, right? But what about the other guys?
Derrick Henry wears both a helmet and a visor, but he’s another of the more recognizable Ravens. He’s also six-foot-three and 247 pounds. He isn’t sneaking in and out of a mall or grocery store with all of the fans he has.
Recently, King Henry was allowed the opportunity to be a regular guy and a fan in his own right. Recently, he hung out with one of the great voices in sports media, and then he met someone he’s a fan of.
Derrick Henry, Adam Sandler, and Dan Patrick make a pact
Recently, Henry was a guest on the Dan Patrick Show and mentioned his admiration for the Happy Gilmore star. Well, Patrick and Sandler are friends, so he arranged a meet-up between the two. Things worked out. Henry and Sandler met and hung out on the set of Happy Gilmore 2.
Henry recently described the experience on the Ravens’ official team site.
“Really, I was just telling Dan Patrick, just tell Adam (Sandler that) he’s my favorite actor, just out of love. It turned into all of that [being invited to the premiere], which I’m really appreciative of. For me to get there and be able to meet him, that’d have been good enough, and if he wants to put me in the movie, I’d be happy as hell too. [It was] just a cool moment that I’ll never forget.”
The Dan Patrick interview raised the stakes as he promised he’d recommend Henry for a cameo role in one of Sandler’s upcoming movies if the Ravens’ star eclipses 2,000 yards rushing this season. If accomplished, Henry would be the 1st player in NFL history to achieve that goal twice.
Last season, he came close but ultimately fell 79 yards short of the target. Can he hit the bullseye this year? We’ll see. We’re pulling for him. We would like this cameo role to happen. Derrick Henry in an Adam Sandler flick? Sign us up!
