The Kansas City Chiefs have a challenging 2025 season ahead, with marquee matchups against the top teams in the league. An early-season battle with the Detroit Lions could serve as a preview of Super Bowl LX in Los Angeles.
Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke with retired NFL safety Erik Coleman about his thoughts on the Lions being a contender in the NFC and their upcoming opponent for the Chiefs in the 2025 season.

“I’m going to say somebody in the NFC North. I would say the Detroit Lions. If they can continue with how they’ve been playing the game, it’s been incredible. The one thing that will be a factor with them is, can they adjust to new coordinators?” said Coleman. “They lost their offensive coordinator; they lost their defensive coordinator. Can they make those adjustments and continue to play the brand of football that Dan Campbell likes? If so, they have a great quarterback. They have great weapons. I like the Lions.”
Detroit finished last season as the conference’s top seed but was upset in the divisional round against the Washington Commanders. In the offseason, impactful coordinators took head coaching jobs, as the Chicago Bears hired Ben Johnson and the New York Jets hired Aaron Glenn.
Kansas City will host the Lions for Week 6 on Sunday Night Football, seeking redemption after losing the 2023 season opener at Arrowhead Stadium.
