There was a scary moment in Sunday’s practice for San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Tarron Jackson.
According to ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, Jackson “went down while being blocked and did not get up.” After being tended to by trainers, Jackson was taken off the field on a stretcher. There’s no word yet on what exactly happened or what injury Jackson sustained in his neck.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan did have a bit of good news about Jackson in his post-practice presser. Shanahan told reporters Jackson is able to talk and move his extremities.
“It’s always scary when someone gets taken off on a stretcher,” Shanahan said. “But just letting you guys know he’s conscious inside. Communicating with us. Can feel all his extremities, and they’re taking him down to Stanford now just for further testing. So, hopefully we’ve cleared the real scary stuff and hopefully he’ll get some good news on his neck.”
Jackson, 27, entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2021 NFL draft. He played in 21 games his first two years and spent the 2023 season on the Eagles’ practice squad before joining the Carolina Panthers last year where he played in three games. In 24 career games Jackson has 18 tackles, two tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks and one forced fumble.
With a relatively thin DE group on the 49ers roster, Jackson has a real chance to push for a roster spot if he is cleared to return.
