The New Orleans Saints took the practice field for the fifth time on Monday morning, and their first time wearing pads. On an important day, Tyler Shough returned to working with the first team per Locked on Saints host Ross Jackson.

While it is just another day of rotating starters, it is significant that Shough took the first team today. This was the first day of practice in which the team donned pads and ramped up contact. He will get the first shot with the starters in the more advanced situations.

To this point, it is impossible to tell who is really leading the quarterback competition. Shough, Spencer Rattler and even Jake Haener have had their moments throughout camp.

On top of that, the defense has probably had the better start to camp than the offense. That is to be expected, though, as it is generally easier for defenses to adapt to a new scheme and get up to speed. It’ll take a few weeks to get a real grasp on who will win the job, unless someone starts to separate themselves.

Rattler took the first team snaps during Sunday’s practice. It appears as though they have found their rotation, as this was the same order that was seen over the first three days of camp.
