FOXBORO — After a quiet day for the wideouts during Monday’s run-heavy red zone work, the script flipped as the red-zone passing game was featured.
We got red-zone 7-on-7s and 11-on-11s from the so-called “high red zone” (outside the 10) and “low red zone” (inside the 10).
In the early 7-on-7s, Drake Maye excelled with connections to Kyle Williams, Hunter Henry, Kayshon Boutte and Javon Baker. Next time back, he went 0-for-4.
That was the nature of this practice as both offense and defense made their share of plays. And honestly, that’s a big improvement for the Patriots offense over previous years when they’ve been a piñata.

In the first set of 11-on-11s, Maye started quiet. He missed Hunter Henry short and overshot Kyle Williams in the left corner.
He came back with a half-roll play-action completion to Stefon Diggs in the end zone before running a read-option to the left and scooting into the end zone. Maye’s best throw during that period was a dart to the back of the end zone to Diggs, who was running left to right. Good patience.
Ja’Lynn Polk, in his second practice of camp, had a couple of touchdown grabs from Joshua Dobbs and also had a fairly spectacular one-handed catch made while out of bounds.
Jabrill Peppers had a nice PBU on DeMario “Pop” Douglas on the doorstep from Maye as practice wound down. Diggs made a nice catch on the end line but stepped out during his route.
Dobbs closed solid with a highlight lob to Baker, who plucked the pass over Alex Austin. Kendrick Bourne beat Marcus Jones on the next play before Dobbs hit undrafted rookie Gee Scott for the final score of the day.
