With their fifth-round pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, No. 154 overall, the New York Giants on Saturday selected Marcus Mbow, offensive lineman, Purdue.

Mbow had a second-round grade on the Big Blue View Big Board. BBV draft analyst Chris Pflum expects the Giants to put Mbow in the mix at guard. [Prospect Profile]

The Giants have 35-year-old Greg Van Roten at one guard and Jon Runyan Jr., with only one year of guaranteed money left on his contract, as their starting guards. Starting right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor also has only one year of guaranteed money on his contract. Starting center John Michael Schmitz has not yet lived up to his Round 2 draft slot. Long-term, it is possible Mbow could land in any of those spots.

Mbow has the fluid movement skills to win block positioning against diferent types of defenders, and he uses stif, independent hands and flexible coil to fend of counters. Because of his core-strength issues, he tends to rely more on angles than power and will get himself in trouble with shaky posture and oversetting/lunging, which diminishes his balance. Overall, Mbow needs to continue developing his play strength and consistency through contact, but his athletic body control and skilled hands are the foundation of a player who will compete for NFL starting snaps, be it at tackle or inside at guard or center. His play style and potential are reminiscent of Zach Tom.

Marcus Mbow is a hyper-athletic prospect who has the tools to be an elite mover at a number of different positions along the offensive line. He’s taken snaps on both sides of the center and logged time as a starter at guard and tackle — this versatility will serve him well at the next level as a team tries to find the optimal implementation of his athleticism.

Mbow is raw as a tackle and struggles at times with framing and timing in space, but he illustrates a great first step to fire off the ball, which could potentially serve him well in stretch concepts. Mbow shows good initial explosiveness and graceful mobility in space, helping to offset the concerns about raw power and his ability to stalemate power attempts.
