Former Indianapolis Colts’ running back Zack Moss has been released by the Cincinnati Bengals, making him a free agent.

Moss joined the Colts during the 2022 season as part of the trade with Buffalo that included Indianapolis sending Nyheim Hines to the Bills. He then remained with the team through the 2023 season.

With the Colts, Moss would appear in 22 games, which included 11 starts, averaging 4.5 yards per rush with six rushing touchdowns.

With Jonathan Taylor playing in only 10 games that 2023 season, Moss handled a heavy workload that year, carrying the ball 183 times and rushing for 794 yards.

During the 2024 offseason, Moss would sign with the Bengals as a free agent.

“Definitely a position that we need to make sure we have enough,” general manager Chris Ballard said at the 2025 NFL combine of the backup running back role. “And that’s nothing against the guys we had last year. But I will say this, Zack Moss, who ended up in Cincinnati, Zack Moss was excellent for us. He was excellent. So we do have to get some more production.”

In Cincinnati last year, Moss appeared in only eight games, rushing for 242 yards with two touchdowns.

A reunion with Moss is probably unlikely. The Colts would bolster their running back depth by drafting DJ Giddens, who is picking up steam as training camp unfolds, and that third running back spot on the depth chart will have to contribute on special teams, where Moss doesn’t have any recent snaps.
