One Houston Texans rookie could miss an extended period, if not the entire season.

Defensive tackle Kyonte Hamilton was carted off at practice on Wednesday morning, wearing an air cast on his left leg, per multiple reports.

KPRC 2 Sports’ Aaron Wilson reported that the seventh-round pick suffered “a serious injury” during team drills later in practice.

A five-year role player at Rutgers, Hamilton played in 51 games across four seasons, totaling 110 tackles — 11 for loss, including six sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 45 quarterback pressures. Per ProFootball Focus, Hamilton played in 1,781 defensive snaps over his five seasons on campus.

The Texans were expecting Hamilton to be a rotational option at defensive tackle behind Tim Settle, Sheldon Rankins and Mario Edwards. Should he placed on the season-ending injury report, Houston will have to make a corresponding move in the coming days.

Houston is off on Thursday, so fans will have to wait until Friday for an answer from Texans coach DeMeco Ryans. The Texans leave for The Greenbriar in West Virginia on Sunday before taking on the Minnesota Vikings at US Bank Stadium.
