During Wednesday’s training camp press conference, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster shared his thoughts on being named a leader in the locker room, specifically among the other receivers.
“I mean, it’s a huge responsibility, and I take it pretty seriously. We got a bunch of young guys in the room, different ages. It’s a big responsibility for me; I take full control,’ said Smith-Schuster. “I think I lead not just by my words, but by my actions, and, like I said, there are a lot of guys I experience different ages, and everyone’s coachable. So, guys have got responsibility.”

“Yeah, JuJu’s (Smith-Schuster) a leader in there,” said head coach Andy Reid without hesitation after his press conference on Tuesday. His confidence in the veteran receiver isn’t lost on him, as Smith-Schuster explained some topics he works on with the younger wideouts.
“Honestly, I think the biggest thing is how to take care of your body, learning how to study your playbook,” said Smith-Schuster. “I took that when I first started because it’s a lot different. In college, the hatches are much bigger. The line is a lot different. In the NFL, it’s all about your alignment, your assignment, and being able to go every single day. I think it’s huge, and I think it’s paid off for me, as, being able to still play this game.”
Smith-Schuster re-signed with the Chiefs early in the offseason after a productive 2024 on and off the field. The 28-year-old contributed well in the postseason with clutch catches in the AFC Championship game victory over the Buffalo Bills, averaging 30 yards on two receptions.
