A little under two years ago, DaRon Bland enjoyed a breakout year and stood out as one of the NFL’s top defensive backs.

The Cowboys cornerback became a household name during the 2023 season when he came away with an NFL-record five pick-sixes. How exactly did Bland become a pick-six weapon? He explained his skill during a recent appearance on 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM).

“Growing up, I used to always play offense. Up until high school, I was doing both sides,” Bland said. “I thought going to college, I would do a little bit of receiving, too. But I don’t want to get hit, so I’m good.”

Bland didn’t need to be on offense to make an impact in 2023. He technically ended up with the same number of touchdown receptions as Justin Jefferson (five) that year.

After his successful 2023, Bland missed most of the 2024 campaign due to injury. He only appeared in seven games last year, posting 41 tackles and five pass deflections.

Bland is looking to find his rhythm quickly after missing the start of training camp in Oxnard. The cornerback and his significant other recently welcomed their first baby.

With Bland in a contract year, the defender is likely hoping for a highly productive 2025 season. He recently told reporters that Dallas is where he wants to be in the future, and that he’ll let his agent handle any contract discussions.

Can Bland return to his pick-six success this year?
