Bryson DeChambeau was spotted sporting a wry grin after listening to U.S. President Donald Trump attempt to pronounce Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s name – which went horribly wrong.
Thursday saw Trump sign an executive order that will see him reestablish the Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition. He was also flanked by DeChambeau, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, WWE wrestler Triple H and New York Giants legend Lawrence Taylor.
However, during the press conference, there was a moment where Trump mispronounced Dolphins quarterback Tagovailoa’s name. The 27-year-old’s name is pronounced tag-oh-vie-low-ugh, which Trump then pronounced “tag-oh-val-ee-ah.”

“Saquon Barkley is on the council and Tua Tag-oh-val-ee-ah, the quarterback who really has been fantastic, when he’s not injured, he’s great. He’s got to stay healthy and he’s a great guy,” joked Trump.
The pronunciation drew a laugh from Vice President J.D. Vance. Butker also let out a little chuckle, while DeChambeau was spotted flashing a wry smile after listening to Trump’s gaffe.
Having entered the NFL back in 2020, Tagovailoa has missed 19 games over five seasons in Miami. The former Alabama quarterback is currently gearing up for his sixth season in the NFL, having missed part of the 2024 campaign due to a concussion.
On Wednesday, Tagovailoa told reporters he would be open to playing in the preseason. “I’d definitely love to get some preseason snaps in. No doubt,” Tagovailoa said.

“It’s a new season, it’s a new year. Got to get things tuned in with the guys again, all of that. I don’t think I’m better than anyone on this team or think I’m too cool to get reps in during preseason games.”
Tagovailoa was also praised earlier during training camp by his head coach, Mike McDaniel, who hailed the quarterback’s leadership.
“Yeah, I’ve seen a ton of guys with energy, that’s the best way I could describe it is towards the football team,” McDaniel told reporters at Dolphins training camp.

“I think leaders, particularly the competitors that we have like Tua (Tagovailoa) and ‘JB’ (Jordyn Brooks), and I think out of the new guys Willie Gay (Jr.) has really, really provided a spark plug for us, Nick (Westbrook-Ikhine) has as well. But ultimately, I feel the energy is more focused on good football.
“It’s not celebrating the result of the play; it’s celebrating how people are attacking their jobs and how they’re utilizing their technique and when a play is made from that, people are getting juiced.
“So overall, whether it’s individuals, whether it’s the addition of the new guys; I think it’s all kind of a combination of all those things, but I’m seeing an energy that’s less about offense versus defense and it’s more about the Dolphins having the most competitive practice where you better be on your stuff or the opposite side is about to smoke you.”
