Packers coach Matt LaFleur on health of the team ahead of Family Night
LaFleur said the Aug. 1 practice will be lighter since things will be more competitive during Family Night on Aug. 2.
Jaire Alexander is in love with his new surroundings these days.
“What can I say? The weather’s great, the fans are great, the city’s great,” said Alexander, who signed with the Baltimore Ravens in the offseason after spending the first seven years of his career with the Green Bay Packers. “I think I’m in a great place.”
But Alexander isn’t about to diminish his time with the Packers.
“Looking back to Green Bay, I made a lot of long-lasting relationships there,” Alexander said on the third day of Ravens training camp July 25, when asked about lessons he learned from how his Packers tenure ended. “I got nothing but love for the city.”
The Packers released Alexander on the eve of mandatory minicamp in June after they couldn’t find a trade partner during the offseason and restructured contract negotiations broke down. He signed with the Ravens for one year at $6 million.
Alexander, though, didn’t want to look back too much.
He’s full steam ahead with the Ravens, a team with championship aspirations coming off a 12-5 season and a third straight playoff appearance.
“I think I just want to move forward and focus on how I can excel here and how we can get that Super Bowl,” Alexander said.
He added that being part of a team known for defense is “an amazing feeling.”
“Defense wins championships,” Alexander said. “I’m in the right place.”
The Ravens allowed the ninth-fewest points in the NFL and had the 10th-ranked defense in 2024. The Packers allowed the sixth-fewest points in the NFL and had the sixth-ranked defense last season.
Packers fans also got used to Alexander’s eccentric personality over the years and the two-time All-Pro said he’s not about to change.
“I’m going to bring the energy and I’m going to bring the juice,” Alexander said.
He hasn’t had the chance to bring that energy on the field in recent seasons.
Alexander, 28, has spent more time on the sidelines than guarding top wide receivers. He has played in just 14 of 34 total games the last two seasons (seven each year). Last season, he missed two games early in the year with a quad injury and then a knee injury ultimately kept out eight more games.
He first injured his posterior cruciate ligament late in the Packers’ win at the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8 on Oct. 27. He missed the next game and then played just 10 snaps against the Chicago Bears in Week 11 on Nov. 17. Despite returning to practice, he continued to suffer from setbacks and never played another game the rest of the season. The team announced Jan. 1 that he had arthroscopic surgery and put him on injured reserve.
Jaire Alexander update
Alexander’s knee injury is certainly something to monitor.
He missed practice July 28 to have his knee drained from swelling, according to reporters in Baltimore.
But the two-time Pro Bowler was back at practice July 29.
