Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has been a fixture in Pittsburgh for nearly two decades. Tomlin is currently the longest-tenured head coach in all of North America. When you have been around that long, you’ve been through a lot of drafts, 19 of them to be exact. Not every pick can be a winner and here are the 10 worst picks under Tomlin’s tenure in the NFL draft.

10 – WR James Washington (2018) – Second round

We had high hopes for Washington and thought he and Mason Rudolph would bring their high-powered offense from Oklahoma State to the Steelers. Injuries ended up limiting Washington’s opportunities and the team finally just moved on.

9 – CB Senquez Golson (2015) – Second round

It’s hard to fault Golson for his career falling apart but after suffering season-ending injuries in three straight offseasons, there wasn’t much Pittsburgh could do.

8 – WR Limas Sweed (2008) – Second round

To be clear, the 2008 NFL draft wasn’t a great class. You can’t look at where the Steelers picked Limas Sweed and immediately cry out for a player taken anywhere close to him. Nevertheless, Sweed stunk and he had some of the worst hands in NFL history.

7 – DT Ziggy Hood (2009) – First round

Ziggy Hood was a better player than his career would indicate. He was a man completely out of position on the Steelers’ defense and ended up being a squandered first-round pick. For the most part, the entire 2009 Steelers draft class was underwhelming aside from wide receiver Mike Wallace.

6 – OT Mike Adams (2012) – Second round

The Steelers knew they were rolling the dice on Adams, who was a true boom/bust pick. But to take that chance with players like linebacker Lavonte David and offensive lineman Kelechi Osemele available really magnifies how bad the Adams pick was.

5 – CB Artie Burns (2016) – First round

It isn’t often you see the Steelers reach for a pick because another team drafts their guy but this is exactly what happened in 2016 when the Steelers were forced to take Burns after the Cincinnati Bengals selected cornerback Williams Johnson III just one pick before them.

4 – EDGE Jarvis Jones (2013) – First round

It isn’t often the Steelers just fail in their scouting but they definitely did with Jarvis Jones. There was absolutely nothing in his film or offseason workouts that said he’d be a good pro and he proved that during his brief career.

3 – LB Devin Bush (2019) – First round

The fact that Bush was a complete bust in the NFL would put him on this list. But he lands at No. 3 on it because of how far up the Steelers traded to get Bush and he still turned out to be awful.

2 – WR Chase Claypool (2020) – Second round

The fact that Claypool completely underperformed as a pro is one thing. He was all Jane and no Tarzan in the NFL. But the fact that the Steelers chose Claypool ahead of quarterback Jalen Hurts when they desperately needed a quarterback is why he ranks so high.

1 – QB Kenny Pickett (2022) – First round

The Steelers reached for Kenny Pickett when the rest of the NFL wanted nothing to do with the entire quarterback class. The next quarterback in the draft went 50 picks later
