Chiefs offensive lineman Josh Simmons could have inside track to start week one

  • August 2, 2025

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (WIBW) – Behind a mix of pedigree and preparation, Kansas City Chiefs’ rookie offensive lineman Josh Simmons seems to be on track to start week one.

“He’s done a nice job on what we’ve asked from him,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said on Friday. “He’s working on all the fundamentals and techniques.”

Simmons was taken with the 32nd-overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft back in April. The Ohio State product tore his ACL during a game against Oregon in October, but told reporters he’s felt issue-free during training camp.

“As we speak I haven’t felt any issues with it yet,” Simmons said. “Playing football, it’s just therapy. I’m glad to be back.”

Simmons said teammates Trey Smith and Jalon Moore have been especially helpful in getting him acclimated to his first go-around in the NFL.

“They’ve seen it all, they’ve made the rookie mistakes, so they’re trying to help me so I don’t make them, or so that I’m ready for those welcome to the NFL moments,” Simmons said. “Asking them the questions, even if it’s something that I already know just to confirm…just getting that imprinted into my brain so that I’m ready to play as hard as I can when I get out there.”

Reid won’t name a starter until the season draws closer. But when asked about position battles on the offensive line, he hailed the competition as a whole.

“That makes each other better,” Reid said.
