The Tennessee Titans were back in action on Saturday on a beautiful day for football.
With owner Amy Adams Strunk on hand, Cam Ward and the offense had one of their best days of training camp against a defense that continues to perform at a high level. While Ward’s improvement and performance will steal the headlines, the team as a whole had a solid day.
Here are five takeaways from the Titans’ eighth practice since opening training camp.
Ward shines
At the beginning of camp, most of the talk was about Ward and his struggles against the Titans’ defense. That all changed today, when Ward had one of his best days as a pro. In the first padded practice, Ward did not throw a pick or have a ball batted down. The young signal caller was 16-of-21 in team periods and looked in control of the offense.

While Ward took a step forward, the offense had some rough spots that must be smoothed out before taking the field against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday. After a hot start to the day, the unit started to tail off as practice went on. For the fourth consecutive practice, drops cost the offense a chance at a big play. While it has not been the same offender every day, the receiving corps must address this issue.
Cam Ward just laid out a perfect fade for Calvin Ridley that would’ve scored, but Ridley doesn’t haul it in. #Titans

One of the topics discussed all offseason and heading into camp was that the team needed to clean up their mistakes and cut back on penalties in 2025. Through eight practices, that has not been the case, and the team is still being plagued by penalties that set them back.
The penalty issue has been seen on both offense and defense to this point in camp, but it was the offense that was the biggest offender today.
Slye struggles
When the Titans signed kicker Joey Slye, they knew they were trading accuracy for a stronger leg. Those accuracy issues came to the forefront today with Slye having a rough outing. The young kicker connected on 5-of-7 field goals, missing from 36 and 55 yards.
This week has been a microcosm of his career. After electrifying the crowd last Saturday by connecting on a 66-yard attempt, he turned around and missed a short chip-shot attempt. With his history of being erratic, it makes sense why the Titans worked out a couple of kickers on Wednesday.
Injury front
After sitting out practice on Friday, Calvin Ridley returned to practice and looked healthy. The same can be said for Peter Skoronski, who left practice early on Friday after rolling his ankle.
Offensive tackle Chandler Brewer (quad), T’Vondre Sweat (abdominal), and Blake Hance (calf) sat out practice on Saturday, and no update was given on their condition.
L’Jarius Sneed and Lloyd Cushenberry both could be seen working out on the side as their rehab stint on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list continues.
