With injuries mounting at cornerback, the Pittsburgh Steelers are signing Daryl Porter Jr., per NFL reporter Aaron Wilson. Per Wilson, Porter worked out alongside former Steelers cornerback C.J. Henderson.

The move helps add depth after injuries to Cory Trice Jr. and Donte Kent. Trice suffered a hamstring injury Friday night while Kent was spotted with a boot on his right foot, missing the weekend sessions. Joey Porter Jr. has also missed the last three days due to an unknown injury, though it appears minor and he began his rehab over the weekend. Once the move becomes official, the team will have to make a corresponding move to fit him onto the roster.

Undrafted in 2025, Porter split his college career at West Virginia and Miami (FL). At Miami, he totaled 108 tackles (three for a loss) with one interception and 18 pass breakups. In 2024, he notched 28 tackles and seven pass breakups. He primarily worked in the slot but split reps at outside corner and inside.

At his Pro Day, he weighed in at 5110, 184 pounds. He ran a 4.60 40-yard dash with a 36-inch vertical and 7.15 three cone time.

He signed with the Buffalo Bills after the draft but was waived in late July.

Porter Jr. is the son of Daryl Porter Sr., a sixth-round pick of the Steelers in 1997. Porter Sr. never appeared in a regular-season game for the team though he went on to have a five-year NFL career. He played in 55 games with 90 tackles and one interception.

Henderson spent part of the 2024 season on the Steelers’ practice squad. However, he was never elevated to the 53-man roster and ended the year injured. He’s a former first-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars who has struggled to live up to that draft billing.

Pittsburgh will hit the practice field for a training camp practice Tuesday. The team will work through Thursday before gearing up for its first preseason game Saturday. Porter could see action late in the contest against the Jaguars.
