In the days and weeks leading up to the 2025 NFL draft, it became clear that wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter was the safest bet to be one of the top picks. When the draft finally came, Hunter fell to No. 2 and the Jacksonville Jaguars after the Tennessee Titans went for quarterback Cam Ward.

From the moment the Jaguars picked Hunter, we said he would be primarily an offensive player and his role on defense would be secondary. This is despite him being a true Iron Man while he was at the University of Colorado. Jacksonville needed help on offense more than defense and Jacksonville understands the rigors of an NFL season well enough to know they cannot run Hunter into the ground.

The Jaguars put out their first unofficial depth chart of the year as the team prepares to kick off the preseason, and Hunter’s place on the depth chart fell into place just like we predicted.

Hunter is listed as a starting wide receiver along with Brian Thomas Jr. but is second string at cornerback. He is set up behind Tyson Campbell and is paired up with Jarrian Jones as backup. Truth be told, Jacksonville has several talented young cornerbacks, so we don’t expect to see Hunter on defense much at all unless there is an injury.
