With NFL training camp underway, the Cleveland Browns released their first unofficial quarterback depth chart, with former Oregon Duck Dillon Gabriel coming in as the third-string passer.
As it stands today, he’s behind former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco, who’s entering his age-40 season, and Kenny Pickett, a 2022 first-round pick who struggled with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a starter and was the backup for the Philadelphia Eagles last season. The Browns acquired him via trade this offseason.

In the fourth spot is former Colorado Buffalo Shedeur Sanders, who was selected in the fifth round at pick No. 144.
Gabriel, who was taken by Cleveland in the third round at 94th overall, faces an uphill battle towards being the opening day starter, considering this first release of the unofficial depth chart. However, it’s not a complete surprise, as the Browns had success with Flacco late in the 2023 season and sought out Pickett in the trade market.
To make matters more difficult for the former Duck, he’s dealing with a hamstring injury that limited him on Monday. That, along with Pickett and Sanders also dealing with injuries, led the Browns to sign veteran quarterback Tyler Huntley.
There’s still over a month — and three preseason games — until the Browns debut against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 7, giving Gabriel enough time to get healthy, continue learning the playbook, and give himself a chance to move up the depth chart.
