COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) – The inaugural Council Bluffs, Southwest Iowa High School Football Media Day took place Tuesday at the Council Bluffs Public Library, hosted by the Daily Nonpareil.
Among the participating teams was Tri-Center, which is coming off its first state championship in program history after claiming the Class A title on Nov. 14 with a 14-10 win over West Hancock.
This season, the Trojans are moving up to Class 1A.
“It’s going to be tough,” senior defensive lineman Ethan Georgius said. “We’re going to get tested every game, but we have the talent. We have everybody coming back, so I think we’ll be able to get it done.”
This year marks the first under new head coach Steven Peterson, who was promoted following Ryan Schroder’s decision to step down after seven seasons leading the program.
“Going up a class, there’s no more breaks,” Peterson said. “It’s week in and week out. You have to be prepared and do your best, because if you don’t, you’re not going to come out with the [win]. Everybody is bought in and they’re ready for another state title, so hopefully we can bring it to them.”
The Trojans start the year Friday, Aug. 29, at home against St. Albert.
