The Chicago Bears are adding to their tight end room, signing rookie Thomas Gordon to a contract, according to Northwestern.

Gordon spent six seasons with the Wildcats and worked out for the Bears earlier this spring at their rookie minicamp. While he didn’t earn a roster spot following the weekend, Gordon remained on the Bears’ radar. He had a stint with the San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL and had workouts with other NFL teams lined up.

Ultimately, Gordon came back to the area he knew well from his college days and will be a part of the Bears’ roster.

Over the last three years at Northwestern, Gordon totaled 52 receptions for 526 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The reported signing comes hours after tight end Cole Kmet left practice early due to an injury, though his issue is not considered to be severe, according to CHGO’s Adam Hoge.
